CrisisHack aims to combine geospatial tools and technology to create solutions to improve humanitarian responses. During the event, teams were given real crisis case studies from the Ebola crisis in Sierra Leone and Hurricane Matthew in Haiti.
Our team created CrisiSMS, a text message-based tool to help track the outbreak of Ebola. The tool allows aid workers to select an area of a city, add key information from open data sources and then message people living in the defined area. Supported by language learning technology, the tool helps aid workers prioritise conversations to track the spread of Ebola, add new data and coordinate a rapid response.
CrisisHack was an amazing learning opportunity for Gather and we are so grateful to IBM’s Emerging Technology team for asking us to join them!
