This week we took significant steps to constructing our demo platform. We have built the first three layers of the platform thanks to data sets from our friends at Spatial Collective and World Pop and technical guidance from our friends at Geovation.
Our demo focuses on the slum of Mathare, home to between 150,000 to 200,000 people, in Nairobi, Kenya. Our first three layers include:
- the outline of Mathare’s road network (using Open Street Map)
- the pinpointed location of toilets (with profiles collected by Spatial Collective)
- population density (from WorldPop).
Next week we will be configuring the three layers to create insightful visualisations and then we will focus on an easy-to-navigate user interface.
There are two ways you can see our demo at work!
We will be launching our demo on Tuesday 20th June. If you would like to attend, please RSVP here: gatherhub.org/event
We will also be in Nairobi in early June. If you would like to be involved in testing the demo, please do contact us.
